Anthony Lazzaro has been around healthcare his entire life. Since he can remember, his mom would drag him into the hospital when she would get called in the middle of the night, spending many nights in an open hospital bed. It was only until recent Anthony got back into the healthcare world, coming from a tech startup background, because he saw the opportunities to create change through technology and have a positive impact on people’s lives. Anthony earned his Bachelor’s from Central Michigan University in Entrepreneurship with a focus in Business Information Systems, Management and Marketing and earned a Master’s in Healthcare Innovation from Arizona State University. Anthony is active in volunteering his time outside of work within the Grand Rapids area, as well serving on Central Michigan University’s Young Alumni Board and Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Emerging Leaders Council.
Project Specialist- Public Relations and Marketing
Jessica is an enthusiastic and innovative professional with extensive experience in marketing, public relations, event, and strategic planning. She has a great attention to detail and accuracy, and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment to make a difference in Innovations.
Jessica was awarded her Associate degree in Business Administration from Muskegon CC and Bachelor degree in Business Science Management from Cornerstone University.
Eric Van Middendorp
Eric is a Biomedical Engineer with experience in product design and manufacturing. He has led the design and development of medical devices ranging from class II rehabilitation and interventional devices to life-saving class I securement devices. He is an inventor on several patents, including one issued patent and three pending applications.Read More
In addition to engineering, Eric has had success as the CEO and founder of a startup, having won several business plan competitions and raised grant and private funding. He has earned MSE in Mechanical Engineering and his BSE in Product Design and Manufacturing Engineering from Grand Valley State University.
He serves on the industry advisory board for MSU Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering (BAE) and the KCTC Health Science Early College Academy’s Biomed program. In addition, he is a member of the RSNA 3D Printing in Medicine Special interest Group.
Clinical Innovation Specialist
Kris has been with Spectrum Health for 24 years in various nursing roles throughout Butterworth and Blodgett Hospital units including the emergency department, observation, oncology, short stay surgical services and the nursing resource center.Read More
Kris held several leadership roles including charge nurse, supervisor of the short stay surgical unit, and nurse manager of the observation unit, admission/intake unit and chest pain center. Kris successfully transitioned the surgical short stay unit to an emergency department observation unit and managed a $1.2M unit renovation. She opened and closed the admission/intake unit during flu seasons and challenging census peaks. Kris is completing PI bronze certification and has participated in and led a number of VSAs, RIEs and A3s within the system.
Kris joined the Spectrum Health Innovations team in January of 2015 as a clinical innovation specialist, leveraging her nursing and leadership experience to help develop new healthcare products and technologies.
Kris is a BSN graduate of Ferris State University. Kris has been trained in human centered design at the Luma Institute and has a certification in Healthcare Innovation and Entrepreneurship from Duke University.
Kris is a member of the American Nurse Association and the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses.
Aaron Schaap is an 8w7 on the enneagram, being curious is more than an idea, it’s his passion. He started his first company at the age of 19 and has been creating space for ideas to grow ever since. He has founded and lead numerous West Michigan businesses and community initiatives around West Michigan over the past 20 years.Read More
From starting the Midwest’s first coworking community in early 2007, leading and supporting various community meetups and initiatives, launching a state recognized coLearning school graduating hundreds of students, to founding, running and successfully exiting his 15 year experience design firm (Elevator Up) in early 2019 and The Factory in early 2020.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Aaron lives in Holland, Mi with his wife and their two kids; you can find them enjoying scooter rides, hanging out with their bees and chickens or hosting a number of different gatherings in their backyard because Aaron believes life is always better together.
